MINNEAPOLIS -- Junior forward
Niya Wilson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) become the UW-Superior women's soccer team's all-time leader in goals, scoring twice, as the Yellowjackets blanked North Central, 5-0, at Elliot Park Field Friday.
Wilson scored her 35th and 36th career goals -- the first and last tallies of the day -- eclipsing the previous mark of 34, set by
Annah Bratley (2018-21). Wilson buried the record-setting goal in the top-left corner of the net in the 15th minute from inside the penalty area and struck a bending free kick that nestled into the top-right corner in the 86th minute.
With the win, UWS (10-3-4, 10-0-1 UMAC) reaches double digits in victories for the second consecutive season and improves to 21-3-0 all-time against North Central. Superior has shut out NCU in five consecutive matches, outscoring it, 29-0, in that span.
The Yellowjackets dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Rams, 50-3, overall. UWS forced goalkeeper Abigail Herbolsheimer (0-15-0) into 22 saves, while Superior freshman goalie
Quinn Clark (Duluth Minn./Duluth East) earned her third clean sheet of the season with two stops, moving to 2-1-2.
Sophomore defender
Emma Fornengo (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) notched her first goal of the season from sophomore
Erika Schneider (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West) 58 seconds after Wilson made it 1-0 with 14:50 on the clock and UWS went into halftime with a two-goal lead.
Freshman
Brynne Crystal (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) collected her first collegiate goal, assisted by Wilson, at 55:10, and sophomore
Mya Holmquist (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) scored her 12th goal 12 seconds later for a 4-0 advantage prior to Wilson's free-kick strike
UWS next heads to Northwestern Saturday for a 3:30 p.m., kickoff at Reynolds Field.
