ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Freshman
Kamryn Hill (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) scored twice, including the game-winning goal in the 42nd minute, as the UW-Superior women's soccer team clinched the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference regular-season title with a 4-1 victory over Northwestern at Reynolds Field on Saturday.
Hill broke a 1-1 tie with 41:15 on the clock, taking a feeds from juniors
Allison Alessi (Shakopee, Minn./Prior Lake) and
Lindrey Schendel (Firestone, Colo./Skyline) before streaking down the far side of the field. Her shot to the near post beat Northwestern's Delaynee Bohatta low for the lead. The win guarantees the Yellowjackets the top seed in the upcoming UMAC tournament beginning Nov. 2.
UWS (11-3-4, 11-0-1 UMAC) improves to 4-0-1 in its last five against the Eagles, who knotted the match with a Mya Chan strike from outside the box in the 33rd minute, assisted by Megan Corbett.
Junior
Niya Wilson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) opened the scoring in the 17th minute when she directed a through ball from Alessi past Bohatta for her eighth goal of the season.
Schendel muscled her way through two defenders and lofted a ball that found its way through Bohatta for a 3-1 lead in the 65th minute. The unassisted goal was her third of the year. Four minutes later, Hill notched her 11th on a low shot past Bohatta with assistsfrom Wilson and sophomore
Mya Holmquist (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) to seal the victory.
Sophomore
Jenna Lang (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) made three saves to earn the win in the UWS net to improve to 9-2-2. Bohatta stopped two shots, falling to 3-1-0.
UWS returns to action Friday at 7 p.m., hosting Minnesota Morris at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
