ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The UW-Superior men's soccer team did all its damage in he second half, scoring all four goals after halftime for a 4-0 shutout of Northwestern at Reynolds Field on Saturday.
Playing up a man for the final 49 minutes of the match due a pair of yellow cards to Northwestern's Tim DeLoye, the Yellowjackets scored in the 56th, 63rd, and twice in 42 seconds in the 84th for the victory.
With the win, UWS improves 12-3-2 overall and 9-1-2 in the UMAC and control their own destiny, moving back into the top spot in the standings, after Minnesota Morris upended Bethany Lutheran, 2-1, earlier Saturday.
Sophomore
Mackie Ringrose (Ewhurst, England/St. Peter's Catholic School) gave Superior the lead with a header off of a corner kick from
Andy Rowland (Andover, Minn./Andover) with 55:01 on the clock. The goal was the fourth of the season for Ringrose.
The 'Jackets made it 2-0 at the 62:50 mark when freshman
Jake Kidd (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) scored his third in two days and sixth overall when he got around a defender in the box and put a shot in the top corner of the net.
Freshman
Ryan Tomsche (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior) scored his second in as many matches with a one-touch ball in front of goal on a 40-yard cross from classmate
Joel Thomas (Cardiff, Wales/Islwyn) for a 3-0 lead at the 83:11 mark. Junior
Phillip Eriksen (Skjetten, Norway/Lorenskog) finished off the win with a penalty-kick goal at 83:53.
The Yellowjackets outshot the Eagles 27-5 overall, and 7-4 in shots on target for the match.
Sophomore
Alex Paredes (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) picked up his sixth clean sheet of the season with four saves, moving to 11-2-2 on the season. UNW's Andrew Skoglund (4-7-1) made seven saves in a losing effort.
UWS is back in action Friday hosting Minnesota Morris. Kickoff at NBC Spartan Sports Complex is set for 4:30 p.m.
