SUPERIOR, Wis. -- The UW-Superior men's soccer team secured its fifth consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference regular-season title with a 2-0 shutout of Crown at NBC Spartan Sports Complex on Saturday.

The Yellowjackets scored both goals after halftime from junior Alex Hanson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) in the 51st minute and freshman Jake Kidd (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) in the 84th. Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Paredes (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) made one save for his sixth clean sheet of the season, Superior's fourth straight shutout and 10th of the year as a team.

Crown played the final 34 minutes of the match with 10 men as Ethan Medina drew a red card, one of eight cards issued on the day.

Hanson gave UWS a 1-0 lead at the 50:13 mark as he headed a Harry Ambler (Reading, England/Little Heath School) ball past Crown goalie Max Henderson for his first goal of the season. Phillip Eriksen (Skjetten, Norway/Lorenskog) also assisted on the goal from the reining UMAC Defensive Player of the Week.

That's the way it stayed until a long from freshman Joel Thomas (Cardiff, Wales/Islwyn) found Kidd in space. He outran the defense and slotted a low shot past Henderson with 83:37 on the clock.

The Yellowjackets (14-3-2, 11-1-2 UMAC) outshot Crown 28-2, including 14-1 in shots on target and led, 7-0, in corner kicks.

Crown (5-11-3, 5-6-3) earned the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament, meaning the same two teams will meet again Wednesday in Superior in the UMAC semifinals. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
