SUPERIOR, Wis. -- The UW-Superior men's soccer team received goals from junior
Karsten Kletti (Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake Area) and senior
Blake Perry (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) to earn a 2-0 shutout of North Central in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action at NBC Spartan Sports Complex on Saturday.
The win, the Yellowjackets' sixth consecutive, improves UWS to 8-2-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the UMAC while being the 14th in a row over North Central (6-6-0, 3-4-0).
Kletti opened the scoring in the 19th minute as he cleaned up the rebound of a punch from Rams' goalkeeper Jerad Buse with a header into the top-right corner of the net. The goal, assisted by sophomore
Josh Bellamy (High Wycombe, England/FAB Football Academy), was the first of the year for Kletti and fourth of his career.
Despite the Yellowjackets holding a large territorial and statistical advantage throughout the match with 19 total shots and 60 percent of possession, they were limited to just the one goal in the opening half.
UWS doubled the lead in the 64th minute when senior
Brandon Conklin's (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) long ball from midfield found Perry on the far side. Perry dribbled inside the 18-yard box and let a low shot go that beat Buse on the right.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Alex Paredes (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) made two saves to pick up his fourth clean sheet of the season and move to 8-1-1 overall. Buse (12 saves) took the loss in the North Central goal, falling to 5-6-0.
The 'Jackets outshot NCU 30-2 overall and 14-2 in shots on target in the match. UWS had eight corner kicks on the night.
UWS is back in action Tuesday at 7 p.m., hosting Northland. The two squads played to a scoreless draw to begin UMAC play on Sept. 17 in Ashland, Wis.
