SUPERIOR, Wis. – Courtney Leising scored twice and UW-Stevens Point tallied three unanswered goals to come away with a 4-1 victory over the UW-Superior women's hockey team in WIAC action at Wessman Arena on Saturday.

The loss for the Yellowjackets drops UWS to 4-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the league while the Pointers improve to 4-2-1 and 1-1-0.

Sophomore Brynn MacLean (Wilcox, Saskatchewan/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) scored her first collegiate goal 38 seconds into the second period to tie the game at 1-1 before UWSP rallied for the final three and the win.

MacLean skated over the line on the near side and surprised Stevens Point goaltender Olivia Schultz, picking the top shelf over her glove. Classmate Emma Booth (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) assisted on the goal.

UWSP opened the scoring when Josie Bender skated across the blue line on the far boards and connected with Leising at the top of the slot. Her shot found its way to the net through a maze of bodies and was also assisted by Kayla Stumo.

Grace Torma helped the Pointers regain the lead at the 8:11 mark of the second period as her screened shot from the left point beat UWS goalie Rose Beeman (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's School), making it 2-1. Maddie Anderle earned the first of her two assists on the day with the helper.

Annika Horman pushed it to 3-1 just 47 second later. Laina Berthiaume found her with a step on the defense at the blue line and Horman skated in and flipped one past Beeman on the glove side.

Leising capped the scoring at 9:43 of the third as she beat Beeman through traffic with assists from Anderle and Berthiaume.

Schultz made 29 saves to earn the win in net, while Beeman took the loss despite 25 stops.

The Yellowjackets went 0-for-6 on the power play and have not scored in their last 16 player-up opportunities. The Pointers were 0-for-3 with the extra skater.

Superior next travels to face Saint Benedict Tuesday at 7 p.m.
