ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Saint Benedict scored three times on special teams, including two power-play goals and a short-handed goal, en route to a 6-0 non-conference victory over the UW-Superior women's hockey team at Ritsche Arena on Tuesday.
The Bennies (5-4-0) built a 2-0 lead with a goal early in the first two periods, added a short-handed tally late in the second and put the game away with three goals in the third. Corrine Brown scored two goals and an assist for CSB, while Chloe Lewis and Kaya Pelton-Byce registered a goal and an assist each.
Ava Stinnett opened the scoring just 48 seconds into the game from Brown, before Brown scored at 2:32 of the second to make it 2-0. Aurora Opsahl and Addy Hackley assisted on the power-play goal.
Then, with Sami Hackley off for boarding at 18:42 of the second, Kennedy Morris scored an unassisted short-handed marker at 19:04.
Pelton-Byce (4:26 on the power play), Brown (10:46) and Lewis (15:03) scored in the third period for the final margin.
Kate Moffatt and Ally Frantzick combined for the shutout in the Saint Benedict net with Moffatt earning the start and making 11 saves in the first two periods before giving way to Frantzick.
Molly Black (Devils Lake, N.D./Devils Lake) absorbed the loss in the UWS net, turning aside 32-of-38 shots.
