KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Juniors
Niya Wilson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) and
Lindrey Schendel (Firestone, Colo./Skyline) of the UW-Superior women's soccer team have been named to the 2022 United Soccer Coaches Region IX Third Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Wilson and Schendel's honors are the second and third in UWS history after Annah Schussman earned third team last season.
Wilson scored 13 goals and 10 assists in 16 matches in 2022 season despite missing seven to injury. Wilson had two hat tricks this year, including one the UMAC championship match win over Northwestern. She earned her third All-UMAC honor this season after being Offensive Player of the Year and a first-team selection a season ago and a second-team pick as a freshman in 2020.
Wilson was named UMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 24, following a week where she broke the school record for career goals scored. Wilson boasts 42 goals in 48 career matches.
Schendel earned her third All-UMAC honor after being a second-team pick as a freshman and honorable mention as a sophomore. She was named UMAC Rookie of the Year in 2020.
This season, Schendel started all 23 matches, playing 1,590 minutes with three goals and eight assists for 14 points. She scored goals in consecutive games at Martin Luther (Sept. 24) and Crown (Sept. 30).
Defensively, Schendel played a part in Superior's 11 clean sheets on the season, also helping UWS not concede a goal in a pair of UMAC tournament matches.
The Yellowjackets won their second consecutive UMAC tournament in 2022 and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second straight season, ending the season with a 15-4-4 record.
