DULUTH, Minn. -- The UW-Superior women's track and field team established 26 personal records, jumpstarting the 2022-23 indoor season at The Opener at St. Scholastica's Burns Wellness Commons on Saturday.
Senior
Alexxa DeQuevedo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley) finished third in the 60-meter hurdles and was near a school record in the process. DeQuevedo also matched her personal record in the high jump with a leap of 1.40 meters for seventh place overall.
Several freshmen had strong days in their collegiate debuts.
Maggie Zaugg (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) was ninth in the 60-meter dash in 8.34 seconds and 11th in the 200 in 28.25.
Cora Schmitz (Luck, Wis./Unity),
Colleen Claude (Centuria, Wis./Homeschool) and
Myla Volk (Wabeno, Wis./Wabeno) also did well in their first college meet. Schmitz ran 8.84 in the 60 for 14th place, 30.21 in the 200 for 19th place and was 12th in the long jump with a mark of 4.40 meters. Claude was third overall in he 400 meters in 1:03.46, 12th in the 200 in 28.27 and 14th in the long jump in 4.26 meters. Volk finished 13th in the long jump in 4.39 meters and 15th in the 60-meter dash in 9.10 seconds.
The Yellowjackets return to action on Jan. 21 when they host the Twin Ports Open at Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse. Events are set to begin at 11 a.m.
