SUPERIOR, Wis. – Senior forward
Jenna Curtis (Webster, Wis./Webster) scored her second goal of the season 24 seconds into the game, but fourth-ranked UW-River Falls exploded for six unanswered goals for a 6-1 non-conference win over the UW-Superior women's hockey team at Wessman Arena on Friday.
Curtis got assists from freshman
Ella Reynolds (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul Secondary School) and senior
Amanda Sergent (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) to take the lead. The Falcons, though, received a pair of power-play goal from Kora Torkelson at 8:15 and 14:51 of the first period, respectively, and River Falls was on the way to its 12th consecutive victory.
UWRF (19-1-0) scored twice more each in the second and third periods to win going away. Alex Hantge (12:43) and Callie Hoff (19:31) made it 4-1 with second-period tallies, while Erin Brice (3:04) and Bailey Olson (15:55) potted third-period goals.
Torkelson (two goals, one assist) and Abigail Stow (three assists) paced the Falcons with three points apiece.
Sami Miller picked up the win in net with 19 saves. Senior
McKenzie Whalen (East Grand Forks, Minn./East Grand Forks) took the loss, making 34 saves for the Yellowjackets (6-7-1).
The Falcons finished 2-for-5 on the power play and UWS went 0-for-2.
Curtis led the 'Jackets with four shots on goal. Reynolds and
Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids Senior) fired three each.
The same teams conclude the weekend series Saturday at Hunt Arena in River Falls. Puck drop for the WIAC contest is set for 7:05 p.m.
