Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Hamline Doubles Up Yellowjackets, 6-3

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Senior forward Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids Senior) scored on a 5-on-3 power play to tie the game, 3-3, with 6:52 remaining, but Hamline responded with a power-play goal 3:10 later and went on for a 6-3 victory over the UW-Superior women's hockey team on Monday at TRIA Rink.

Dulong's sixth goal of the year pulled the Yellowjackets, who dug themselves a 3-0 hole in the first period, even. Jenna Byfuglien (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) found Dulong with a wide-open net at the far post for the tap in. Sophomore Kailey Swerhun (Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Ignatius) scored her third of the season from freshman Emma Booth (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) to inch closer at 6:23 of the period.

Freshman forward Gaby Andreacchi (Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Patrick) scored her first collegiate goal on a net-mouth scramble to get Superior on the board at 18:50 of the second period after the Pipers' Molly Garin notched a first-period hat trick to stake HU to the lead. Garin scored at 5:14, 7:09 and 12:48 and those goals stood up. Cheyenne Abear assisted on first two and Jordan Hanson the third.

Nikki Olund broke the deadlock with a power-play marker at 16:18, assisted by Sophie Rausch. Abear and Rausch added empty-net goals at 19:33 and 19:50, respectively, for the final margin.

Senior goaltender McKenzie Whalen (East Grand Forks, Minn./East Grand Forks) followed her career-high 44-save performance Saturday at UW-River Falls with 37 on Monday in the loss. Ava Bailey earned the victory with 23 stops.

Both teams wet 1-for-5 on the power play.

Hamline improved to 11-7 with the win while the 'Jackets fell to 6-9-1 overall.

UWS is back in action at No. 5 UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday. Puck drop from Hobbs Ice Center is 7 p.m.
