FORT MYERS, Fla. --Â The UW-Superior softball team opened its spring break trip without allowing a run in a two-game sweep of Alfred State and Maine Presque Isle at the Lee County Sports Complex on Monday.

Tayler Kraemer (Spring Green, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) limited Alfred State to two hits in her third complete game of the season as the Yellowjackets opened the day with a 3-0 victory. UWS (6-0) used a five-hit shutout from freshman
Allison Luoma (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) in the nightcap for a 8-0 win in five innings over the Owls. Eight different players collected hits for the 'Jackets, while freshman
Zoe Thomson (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two driven in.Â

UWS jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning against the Pioneers, added two more in the fifth and
Tayler Kraemer (Spring Green, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) was in control the rest of the day, improving to 4-0 in the circle.

Kraemer struck out five and walked three, throwing 99 pitches. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate driving in a pair of runs, out of the No. 2 spot in the lineup.

Kaela Kraemer (Spring Green, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) led off the game with a single to left-center field, stole second and was driven in when her sister singled to left off of Alfred's Abby Beidel (0-2).

Jessica Jacobson (Sturgeon Bay, Wis./Southern Door) started the fifth with a single and moved to second. Then, with two out, pinch runner
Evelyn Thomton (East Bethel, Minn./Centennial) scored when
Kaela Kraemer (Spring Green, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) doubled to left.
Tayler Kraemer (Spring Green, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) followed with a single to center, plating her sister, lengthening the lead.

Beidel took the complete-game loss for Alfred State, allowing eight hits, with one strikeout.

Kaela Kraemer (Spring Green, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in the win.

Game 2 -- UW-Superior 8. Maine Presque Isle 0 (five innings)
The Yellowjackets' bats came alive in against Maine Presque Isle helping them to their first run-rule victory of the season. UWS scored two runs in the first inning, three in the third and three more in the fourth for a five-inning win.

Superior tallied eight hits and benefitted from two Owls' errors.
Â
Luoma moved to 2-0 on the season, scattering five hits while fanning five, in the circle.
Â
Thomson's first-inning, two-run single to left put the 'Jackets ahead.
Ellie Macal (Winona, Minn./Cotter) and
Tiffany Kirk (McHenry, Ill./McHenry East) both scored in the third, coming around when Thomson reached on an error at second base.Â

Luoma helped herself with an RBI single for a 5-0 lead later in the inning, before Superior put the run rule into effect with three runs in the fourth.Â
Â
Consecutive triples by Kirk and Macal with two out pushed it a 7-0 lead for UWS. Then, with
Lily Hanson (Cloquet, Minn./Esko) batting for Jacobson, Macal scored on a passed ball for the final margin.

Kirk scored three times for the 'Jackets in the second game of the day.

UW-Superior returns to action Tuesday against Nazareth and SUNY Delhi at 8 and 10 a.m. CT, respectively.
