COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The UW-Superior volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday to begin the season Friday at the Pikes Peak Challenge, hosted by Colorado College at Reid Arena.

The Yellowjackets swept Lawrence 3-0, winning by scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-17 to start the day, before falling to the 14th-ranked Tigers, 25-15, 25-15 and 25-17.

Against Lawrence (0-2), senior
Alexie Pryd (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove Senior)Â tallied 12 kills and 14 digs for a double-double, also adding two blocks and two service aces. UWS collected eight aces in the match with four players recording two apiece. Senior
Hailey Atwood (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake), sophomore
Jenna Anderson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and freshman
Colleen Claude (Centuria, Wis./Homeschool) were the other three.

Cassy Teff (Foley, Minn./Foley)Â added seven of her own. Anderson chipped in with 11 digs and sophomore
Maiana Stark (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) had nine.

Superior limited the Vikings to a -.039 attack percentage with just 18 kills to go with 22 errors in 102 total swings.

Up one set, UWS took control of the second by winning 11-of-12 points for a 14-8 edge. Lawrence closed the gap to 16-13 before the 'Jackets put the set away with a 9-0 run.

UWS built an 11-6 advantage early in the third on a kill a Stark kill and the lead grew to 21-14 on a Lawrence hitting error. UWS then took four of the final seven points, winning the match with a Pryd kill, assisted by Claude.

Colorado College hit .305 with 28 kills and 21 errors in 96 total attacks and held UWS .073 on its way to starting the year 2-0. CC's Isabella Lipacis pounded out 20 kills and Jenny Jenks had 38 assists to pace the offense.

Mathea Leiskau (Osceola, Wis./Osceola)Â added a team-best eight digs for Superior.

UWS returns to action Saturday to play Hardin-Simmons and John Carroll at 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. CT.
