MANKATO, Minn. -- Senior
Blake Perry (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) scored twice and sophomore
Zach Tiemeyer (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee Community) notched the game-winning goal in the 42nd minute as the UW-Superior men's soccer team erased an early deficit for a 4-2 victory over Bethany Lutheran at Scheels Field on Friday.
After the Vikings opened the scoring less than 10 minutes into the contest on a strong individual effort by Antonio Lima in which he nutmegged a defender as well as UWS goalkeeper
Alex Paredes (Mequon, Wis./Homestead), the Yellowjackets tallied the next four to take a commanding lead.
Perry found space behind the Bethany defense and went in alone on goalie Francisco Vilarinho, beating him low in the 30th minute to knot the match at 1-1. Ten minutes later, sophomore
Aaron Shartin-Folkert (Hudson, Wis./Somerset) gave Superior the lead with his first goal of the season, and two minutes after that, Tiemeyer's first of the season and second of the his career doubled the lead.
Andy Rowland (Andover, Minn./Andover) assisted on the goal.
Perry's second of the day, an unassisted marker, made it 4-1 prior to the Vikings (3-2-2, 1-1-0 UMAC) pulling one back when Bryan Jaimes scored from Lima in the 61st. BLC, though, played the final 25 minutes with 10 players after Bernardo Abreu was sent off with a red card.
Paredes earned the victory in net, making three saves. Vilarinho took the loss for the Vikings with four stops.
UWS outshot BLC, 16-9, had all four corner kicks in the match.
The Yellowjackets (3-2-1, 1-0-1) are back in action Saturday at Martin Luther at 4:30 p.m.
