MENOMONIE, Wis. -- The UW-Superior volleyball team saw its three-match winning halted in a 3-0 non-conference sweep at the hands of UW-Stout at Johnson Fieldhouse on Tuesday.
The Blue Devils cruised to a 25-18, 25-12, 25-11 victory, improving to 10-8 on the year. The Yellowjackets dipped below .500 at 7-8 overall with the loss.
UW-Stout held UWS to a -.093 attack percentage with just 13 kills and 22 errors in 97 total attacks for the night. Sophomore
Maiana Stark (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) paced Superior with four kills. Senior
Cassy Teff (Foley, Minn./Foley) and freshman
Colleen Claude (Centuria, Wis./Homeschool) had five assists apiece, while sophomore
Jenna Anderson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) contributed 10 digs.
Stout received a match-high 13 kills from Sidney Hoverman, while Caroline Barr added nine and Jessica Barr eight as the host hit .255 for the match.
Kennedy Barrett picked up 34 of the team's 38 assists. Barrett scooped 13 digs to complete a double-double. Terrah Moshier had a match-high 15 digs and two aces.
UWS hung with Stout much of the opening set, staying within one or two points until the Blue Devils used a three-point run that made it 16-12 on a Braun kill. The 'Jackets closed to 16-14 with an
Alexie Pryd (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove Senior) kill and
Kaylin Plautz (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) ace. A Stout error and Pryd ace made it a 20-18 for the Blue Devils, before Stout scored the final five points to win the set.
Stout used a 9-0 stretch early in the second set to take a 13-7 lead and did not look back on the way to a 2-0 advantage in the match. The Blue Devils finished off the sweep with separate 6-0 and 5-0 runs in the third set. Hoverman sealed the match with a kill from Barrett for the win.
UWS returns to UMAC play Friday, hosting Minnesota Morris at 7 p.m.
