EAU CLAIRE, Wis. --Tenth-ranked UW-Eau Claire halted the UW-Superior women's hockey team's four-game winning streak Friday in posting a 3-1 win in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at Hobbs Ice Center.
The Blugolds (12-3-0, 4-1-0 WIAC) scored once in each period to beat the Yellowjackets for the 17th consecutive time.
Sophomore defender
Lucy Drougas (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) scored her third goal of the season at 19:10 of the second period to cut the Eau Claire lead in half at 2-1, but Emily Hart tallied at 17:26 of the third to restore the two-goal lead. Hattie Verstegen and Sydney Johnson assisted on the goal.
Rose Beeman (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's School) kept UWS (8-8-0, 1-3) in the game much of the night, making 25 saves on 28 shots.
Eden Gruber opened the scoring at 9:19 of the first, getting assists from Sadie Long and Hallie Sheridan.
The Blugolds doubled the lead with a goal from Sam Bandholz at 7:16 of the second from Ava Bullert and Keira Bolt.
Stephanie Martin made eight saves in the UWEC net to earn the victory.
Both teams were scoreless on the power with the Yellowjackets going 0-for-3 and Blugolds 0-for-4.
The teams close their home-and-home weekend with a 7 p.m., puck drop at Wessman Arena on Saturday.
