SUPERIOR, Wis. -- No. 10-ranked UW-Eau Claire scored a pair of goals on the power play in a 3-0 defeat of the UW-Superior women's hockey team at Wessman Arena on Saturday.
Sadie Long and Eden Gruber scored with the extra skater in the first and second periods, respectively, while Sophie Rausch also scored in the second as the Blugolds completed the season series sweep of UWS.
Junior goaltender
Rose Beeman (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's School) stopped 40 of the 43 shots she saw, including making 15 saves in the second period and 14 in the third. UWS fell to 8-9-0 overall and 1-4-0 with the loss and UWEC improved to 13-3-0 and 5-1-0 in the league in the win.
Long scored from Sydney Johnson at 10:58 of the first to make it 1-0. Rausch got assists from Hallie Sheridan and Sami Scherling at 16:37 for a 2-0 lead after one.
Gruber was assisted by Long and Taylar Meier at 18:27 of the second for the final margin.
Stepahnie Martin earned her second shutout of the weekend, stopping all 13 shots that came her way.
Gaby Andreacchi (Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Patrick),
Jenna Hoops (Woodbury, Minn./Visitation School) and
Avery Schwark (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) each fired two to pace the Yellowjackets' offense.
Eau Claire went 2-for-8 on the power play and the 'Jackets were 0-for-3.
UWS is back in action at UW-River Falls Thursday. Game time at Hunt Arena is set for 7 p.m.
