ASHLAND, Wis. --Â Sophomore
Andrew Kunelius (Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia) led all players with a career-high 18 points on 7-for-10 from the field as the UW-Superior men's basketball team shot 50 percent to down Northland, 78-64 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action at Kendrigan Gymnasium on Saturday.

Four Yellowjackets landed in double figures on the day as UWS improved to 12-7 overall and 6-2 in the league with the victory to sweep the season series between the northwestern Wisconsin rivals. Coming off of a double-double in Friday's win over Finlandia, senior
Josef Fahrenholtz (Chatfield, Minn./Chatfield) followed with 16 points and six rebounds. Junior
T.J. Moberg (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) finished with 13 points and five boards and sophomore
Reid Johnson (Chatfield, Minn./Chatfield) chipped in 11 points and five caroms.

UWS made at least half their shots in a game for the ninth time this season in the win. Superior was 13-for-26 in the first half and 14-for-28 in second. The Yellowjackets turned up the defensive intensity after halftime to expand a 40-35 advantage at the break, forcing seven Northland (4-15, 2-6 UMAC) and limiting the LumberJacks to 31 percent from the floor on just nine baskets.

UWS opened a 19-7 lead at the 11:18 mark of the first half on a
Ty Melchert (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) fastbreak layup prior to Northland rallying. The 'Jacks came all the way back to claim a 29-28 lead with a 4:03 remaining when Jordan Brennan knocked down a 3-pointer. The teams traded buckets to 33-32 Northland before Kunelius drained a triple with 1:40 on the clock for a 35-33 UWS edge.

Kunelius then gave the 'Jackets their five-point halftime lead, hitting a second 3 at the intermission buzzer in as many weeks, after also nailing a 75-foot heave at Finlandia on Jan. 17.

UWS grew the lead to as large as 56-42 on a Fahrenholtz layup with 12:49 to play in the second half. Northland's Langston Flowers pulled his team to within 69-63 with a basket after a Brennan steal with 3:36 left. Superior, however, put in 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach.

Superior held a 36-26 rebounding margin to offset 19 turnovers.

Brennan led Northland with 16 points and six boards. He added a game-best four steals. The LumberJacks shot 37.3 percent for the game.

The Yellowjackets return home to take on Martin Luther Friday. Game time at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium is set for 5:30 p.m.
