Josef Fahrenholtz (Chatfield, Minn./Chatfield) led all players with 23 points and eight rebounds as the UW-Superior men's basketball team topped Martin Luther, 76-60, on Friday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.

The Yellowjackets never trailed in rolling to their 10th win in 11 games. The victory moves UWS to 13-7 overall and 7-2 in the UMAC and gives Superior the opportunity to tie Bethany Lutheran atop the league standings with a win against the Vikings Saturday.

Fahrenoltz shot 9-for-12 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line on the night. Sophomore
Reid Johnson (Chatfield, Minn./Chatfield) and senior
Levy Miguel (Luanda, Angola/Canarias Basketball Academy) also scored double figures, adding 13 and 10 points, respectively.

UWS took advantage of 20 Martin Luther (2-17, 0-9) turnovers, converting them into 21 points, while also holding a 40-35 rebounding edge. In all, 17 players saw game action and 10 scored points in the win.Â

Junior
J'Vaun Walker (Rosharon, Texas/Manvel) had eight points, four assists and two rebounds, and classmate
Joey Barker (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) contributed seven points and eight boards.

Five consecutive points from Barker on free throws and a 3-pointer gave UWS an early 18-4 lead, just 4:48 into the game. A layup by Seth Veers three minutes later sliced the MLC deficit to 20-14 before a steal and bucket by Walker ignited a 9-0 run. Fahrenholtz hit a jumper with 8:09 remaining in the half to give UWS a 29-14 lead, closing that stretch. The advantage grew to as may as 22 points late in the half as Superior led, 44-26, at halftime.

Martin Luther was unable to work the UWS lead below double digits in the second half, cutting it 12 with a Nathan Miller 3-pointer at 14:15 mark for a 48-36 game.

Barker hit a layup with 5:44 to play to make it 70-40 and UWS didn't look back.

Martin Luther was led by Ethan Kjenstad, who had 11 points. Miller added 10.
