MANKATO, Minn.—The UW-Superior women's soccer team was on the road Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Mankato, facing off Against Bethany Lutheran in a battle for first place in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).
The Yellowjackets (9-4-1, 9-1-0 UMAC) wasted no time in the opening 45 minutes with a quick goal just one minute into the match, Setting the tone for what would be a 2-1 win over the Vikings at Scheels Field.
Getting the 'Jackets on the board in the first minute of play was,
Lindrey Schendel (Firestone, Colo./Skyline), scoring her first goal of the season for the Yellowjackets, giving them an early lead 1-0.
Another 60 minutes would go by before we had anymore scoring for either team. Mia Saulter would score for Bethany to tie the game up at 1-1, in the 61st minute of play. Elena Lujan Rubio would be credited with the assist.
The match did not stay even for long, as the Yellowjacket would answer quickly.
Niya Wilson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) scored the game winner and her 15th goal of the season, putting the 'Jackets up 2-1 in the 62nd minute.
Jenna Lang (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) started in net for the Yellowjackets and would pick up the victory after saving two Vikings shots. Lang now holds a 5-1-0 record in net for the 'Jackets.
With a quick turnaround, the Yellowjackets are back in action Sunday, Oct. 15 and will face St. Scholastica. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Saints Field.
