SUPERIOR, Wis.—The UW-Superior women's soccer team would find success in conference play Tuesday, facing Upper Midwest Athletic Conference rival Crown College. The Yellowjackets extended their win streak to seven.
The Yellowjackets (7-2-1, 7-0-0 UMAC) netted an early lead just five minutes into the match when
Mya Holmquist (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) would get things going, scoring her 9th goal of the season to make things 1-0.
Niya Wilson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) was credited with the assist.
Later into the first half, Holmquist would score her second of the game in the 25th minute. This assist would come from
Erika Schneider (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West), and the Yellowjackets would lead 2-0.
In the 35th minute Crown surrendered an own goal, giving a 3-0 lead that they would take into the half.
Late into the second half, Wilson would turn it on and would net herself one,
Olivia Soltero (Washburn, Wis./Washburn) would tally an assist to advance the Yellowjackets to a 4-0 lead.
In the 87th minute, the Yellowjackets would make the crowd happy. On a penalty kick, Wilson scored her second of the game and eleventh of the season, making the final score 5-0.
Jenna Lang (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) made her fifth start in net for the Yellowjackets and would net her third shutout of the season. Lang saw a total of three shots on net tonight, making all three saves. It was Lang's 14th shutout as a Yellowjacket, tying the school record for career shutouts.
The Yellowjackets are back in action tomorrow, Oct. 4 with non-conference play against Macalester. Kickoff at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex is set for 4:30 p.m.
