SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's soccer team has had a strong season in 2023. Ever since the 'Jackets commenced Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play they have been on point, compiling a seven-match win streak and only allowing four goals. Coming off short rest from Tuesday's match against Crown, the Yellowjackets paused from conference play and faced off against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (MIAC) Macalester Wednesday.
The Scots, after winning two conference matches against Bethel and St. Olaf, extended its win streak to three matches after scoring two goals in the second half of play against the Yellowjackets, winning 3-0.
Despite the loss, UWS played well in non-conference action. Statistically both teams were neck-and-neck in the first half, with shots 4-3 in favor of the Scots, saves at two a piece, and corner kicks 2-1 in favor of the 'Jackets.
With both teams eager to find the back of the net, the Scots would strike first courtesy of Adi Nhouyvanisvong, as she took a feed from teammate Ella Thomsen and capitalized to lead 1-0.
Three minutes later Thomsen notched a goal of her own, receiving an assist from Nhouyvanisvong and pushing the Scots out in front of the Yellowjackets 2-0.
From thereon, the 'Jackets were unable to muster any shots on goal and took the loss, snapping its seven-match win streak.
Kamryn Hill (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld),
Mya Holmquist (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo), and
Niya Wilson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) finished the match with two shots taken.
Yellowjacket goalkeeper
Quinn Clark (Duluth Minn./Duluth East) was tabbed with the loss in net, saving two in all 90 minutes of action. Scots goalkeeper Abigail Heuga picked up the clean sheet on the evening, saving three.
The Yellowjackets return to the pitch in UMAC action against Minnesota Morris. Kickoff at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex is set for 2 p.m.
