SAINT PAUL, Minn. – On the heels of winning their third-consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) championship, the University of Wisconsin-Superior saw nine Yellowjackets receive All-UMAC plaudits as the league announced its award winners in an announcement Tuesday.

Five Yellowjackets were tabbed to the All-UMAC First Team, highlighted by the UMAC Defensive Player of the Year, junior Brenna Mattson (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior). Seniors Allison Alessi (Shakopee, Minn./Prior Lake), Lindrey Schendel (Firestone, Colo./Skyline) and Niya Wilson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior), along with junior Mya Holmquist (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) were also given first team distinction. Junior Halle Carlson (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) and senior Tori Vosburg (Cloquet, Minn./Esko) were slated to the second team, while junior Jenna Lang (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) was named to the All-UMAC Honorable Mention list. Senior Kaitlyn Raisch (Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins) was the Yellowjackets' representative on the Sportsmanship Team.

Additionally, Yellowjacket head coach Allison DeGroot was named UMAC Coach of the Year for the fourth straight season.

Mattson was an invaluable leader of the Yellowjacket backline, holding opponents to an average of just 1 goal-per-match and 6.8 shots per match. She compiled 1,456 minutes during the season, starting in all 19 matches she played and factored into the nine clean sheets posted throughout the campaign.

Alessi picked up her second All-UMAC First Team honor, also receiving a first team citation for her efforts in 2022. This season Alessi started all 19 matches she played and finished third on the team with goals (seven), fourth in total points (15), and third in shots on goal (27). She posted her best offensive match Sept. 13 against North Central, notching a hat trick and leading the Yellowjackets to a 7-0 decision over the Rams.

Schendel picks up her fourth UMAC honor in her Yellowjacket career. Starting in all 22 matches, she tallied 1,517 minutes while scoring two goals and five assists for nine points as a midfielder. Schendel's goals came against Bethany Lutheran (Oct. 14) and Crown (Oct. 28).

Wilson earned her fourth postseason award in 2023. She extended her lead as all-time scorer for the Yellowjackets with a team-leading and conference-second 26 goals, currently sitting with 68 career goals. Wilson holds a team-leading 1,528 minutes played, 62 points and a .655 shots-on-goal percentage (57 total, 2.59 per match). She scored two goals in eight different matches while carding a hat trick against North Central (Oct. 18), where the 'Jackets exploded for a 11-0 victory.

Holmquist received her second-consecutive All-UMAC First Team nod this season. Starting all 22 matches, she compiled 1,441 minutes and has a team-second 17 goals and team-leading 13 assists for 47 total points. Holmquist is fifth in the conference with three game-winning goals, sixth in shots taken with 91, third in goals scored and sixth with 43 shots on frame. Additionally, she leads the UMAC with 13 assists on the season.

Carlson snags her third conference honor while at UWS. Playing in 20 matches and starting 14 from the backline, she compiled 1,294 minutes and tallied four points with a goal and two assists. Carlson rifled 15 total shots with seven on target, as well as providing a strong defensive output that gave the 'Jackets nine clean sheets throughout the campaign.

Vosburg earns her second postseason award after being named to the second team last season. Starting all 22 matches, she had two goals and tallied two assists for six points. Her goals came against Martin Luther and North Central, matches where the Yellowjackets put up two of the nine clean sheets on the year for 4-0 and 11-0 victories, respectively.

Additionally, Lang set the program shutout record with 15 after posting a clean sheet against Minnesota Morris Oct. 7. She currently sits with 18.
