NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Yellowjacket women's hockey team was back in action Friday after having 17 days off. The Yellowjackets were on the road, taking on St. Olaf, and the Yellowjackets looked a little rusty, falling to the Oles 5-0 at the St. Olaf Ice Arena..
St. Olaf got on the board twice in the first seven minutes, setting the pace for the remainder of the game. Kate Carfagnini got the first one in just the fourth minute of the game, making it 1-0. Carfagnini was assisted from Solvei Berg-Messerole and Julia Larson.
Molly Terebayza would score just minutes later on a power play. Terebayza would get the puck at the point and would fire it to the net where the goaltender was being screened, giving the Oles a 2-0 lead. MaKenna Beaver and Grace Lankas would be credited with the assists.
With another quick start to a period, St. Olaf would once again find the back of the net just minutes in the second giving them the 3-0 lead. Larson would tally a power play goal of her own in the fifth minute of the period. Andi Huselid assisted, and Berg-Messerole would get her second assist of the night.
Terebayza would get her second of the game in the 11th minute, giving St. Olaf a 4-0 lead. Beaver would tally another assist and Sophie McBane would also be credited with the assist.
Just minutes later, McBane would put one up for herself on the power play to give the Oles the 5-0 lead. Beaver would be credited with her third assist of the night and Lankas would add her second assist.
The second period was special team heavy as the Yellowjackets had to kill off four of the nine penalties that were called against them.
The third period was much less eventful. No scoring from either team and less special team play.
Rose Beeman (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's School) would get her ninth start of the season, and take the loss, with her record falling to 4-4-1. Beeman saw 22 shots on net tonight before goaltender
Molly Black (Devils Lake, N.D./Devils Lake) would come in for the third period for the Yellowjackets. Black would save all seven of her shots in the third period.
The Yellowjackets, with a quick turnaround, are back in action Saturday Dec. 9 back at home where they will seek revenge on St. Olaf. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m.
