ASHLAND, Wis. -- Senior
C.C. Hayes (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances) scored both goals, including the overtime winner, to lift the UW-Superior women's hockey team to a 2-1 victory at Northland on Friday.
The victory ensured the Yellowjackets will host the LumberJills in an opening round game in the upcoming Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament Tuesday at 7 p.m., at Wessman Arena.
The winner for Hayes came a 1:10 of the extra session on the power play. Her sixth goal of the season was an unassisted marker.
Northland tied the at the 19:13 mark when Maddy Bloedel scored from Kylie Moffatt and Eliza DiNatale.
The game was scoreless until Hayes took a feed from sophomore
Gaby Andreacchi (Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Patrick) 25 seconds into the second period and put it home to make it 1-0.
The Yellowjackets (10-14-0, 3-8-0 WIAC) outshot Northland (2-21-1, 0-11-0), 45-21 on the night.
Sophomore
Molly Black (Devils Lake, N.D./Devils Lake) earned the victory in the Superior net, making 20 saves. Teagan Johnson took the loss while turning aside 43 shots.
UWS went 1-for-2 on the power play and the LumberJills were unsuccessful with their only extra skater opportunity.
The same two teams close the regular season Saturday at 2 p.m., at the Bay Area Civic Center.
