ORLANDO, Fla. – The Yellowjacket men's tennis team, fresh off having matches against UW-La Crosse and North Central College rained out Monday, took the court Tuesday, looking to extend their record-setting start to the 2023 season.

Mission accomplished.
The Yellowjackets rolled to victory Tuesday, defeating the University of Scranton 9-0 at Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando.

With the win, the Yellowjackets are now 11-0 on the season (1-0 UMAC) and have now defeated the opposition in perfect 9-0 fashion four times.

The Yellowjackets started quickly, mowing through the Royals in doubles play. The tandem of
Andre Luiz de Melo Guedes (Brasilia, Brazil/Centro de Ensino Médio Paulo Freire) and
Igor Guetten Chaves (Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil/Colégio Adventista) earned the win at No. 1 doubles, defeating James Harrington and Patrick O'Mara 8-5.

The other pairings had a little less trouble.
Ren Kurachi (Yokohama, Japan/Yokosuka Gakuin) and
Jacob Zacharias (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) teamed up to defeat Sal Sullivan and Steven Prosperino at No. 2 doubles by a score of 8-1.
Benedek Kaibas (Salgótarján, Hungary/Mikszáth Kálmán Gimnázium) and Matues Miranda Silvestre won at No. 3 doubles, taking down Nathan Tauber and John Sinclair, also by a score of 8-1.

Moving to singles play, the Yellowjackets just kept moving along.

Playing at No. 1 singles for the first time this season, Luiz de Melo Guedes defeated Harrington, taking the first set 6-2 before escaping in the second set, 7-5. Luiz de Melo Guedes is now 6-2 in singles play on the year.

At No. 2 singles, Kurachi earned the straight-sets win over O'Mara by scores of 6-2, 6-1.

Vitor Sakakibara (São Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Saber) was victorious over Tauber at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3. Meanwhile, Zacharias, back at the No. 4 singles post he's occupied for most of the season, defeated Jason Budrys 6-2, 6-4. Kaibas cruised to a win over Prosperino at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-3.

At No. 6 singles,
Keisuke Sato (Fukushima, Japan/Fukushima) and John Sinclair were deadlocked early, With the first set tied 3-3, Sato took off, winning nine of the next ten games to take the match 6-4, 6-0, and complete the clean sweep for the Yellowjackets. Sato is now 4-0 in singles play in 2023.

The Yellowjackets are back in action Wednesday, when they will play matches against Illinois Tech and Coe College out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
