SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket men's tennis team just keeps on rolling.

In 2023, the Yellowjackets got off to an historic start, winning the season's first 11 matches. After Saturday, they'd won three in a row and were perfect in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.

Sunday, the Yellowjackets were hosting their third match of the weekend, hosting Martin Luther, and it's safe to say the roll continues.

The Yellowjackets had little difficulty with the Knights Sunday, on the way to a 9-0 win at Lydia Thering Fieldhouse. The victories improve the Yellowjackets to 16-2 overall and 4-0 in the UMAC.

In doubles play the No. 2 pairing of
Frederick Diehl (Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) and
Mateo Abarca Pino (Riobamba, Ecuador/El Despertar) got things started, rolling to an 8-1 win over Josiah Koelpin and Silas Steinbrenner.
Benedek Kaibas (Salgótarján, Hungary/Mikszáth Kálmán Gimnázium) and
Mateus Miranda Silvestre (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Torricelli) struggled early at No. 1 doubles but came roaring back late in the match, defeating Josiah Wordell and Johannes Bourman 8-5. The Yellowjackets closed things out in doubles play when
Miles Dempsey (Golden, Colo./Green Mountain) and
Keisuke Sato (Fukushima, Japan/Fukushima) beat Matthew Koelpin and Brian Friesenegger 8-1.

Things shifted to singles play and the Yellowjackets stayed hot.

Vitor Sakakibara (São Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Saber) got the win at No. 1 singles, defeating Wordell 6-4, 6-1. The Yellowjackets clinched the Sunday win when
Jacob Zacharias (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Bourman at No. 2 singles.

Miranda Silvestre improved to 4-3 on the year in singles play, routing Josiah Koelpin at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Jace Gilbertson (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie Senior) also had a quick win at No. 5 singles, defeating Matthew Koelpin 6-2, 6-0. For Gilbertson, it was his third singles victory of the weekend, and he won 18 games will only dropping two.

Kaibas earned the win at No. 4 singles, taking down Elijah Schulz 6-0, 6-3.
Lorenzo Korehisa Silva (São Paolo, Brazil/Colegio Singular-Santo Andre) closed things out for the Yellowjackets Sunday, winning at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1.

The Yellowjackets have a little time off before they return to action Friday, April 7 when they host Northwestern in UMAC play. The first serve is set for 11 a.m.
