SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's tennis team was back in action Sunday, playing their third conference match of the weekend at home, and the squad didn't look the least bit weary by all the action of the weekend.
The Yellowjackets made quick work of Martin Luther, rolling to a 9-0 victory at Lydia Thering Fieldhouse.

With Sunday's win, the Yellowjackets have won three in a row and have improved their record to 6-10 overall and 3-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).

The Yellowjackets jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, taking the three doubles matches in short order.
Andreina Tejada (Quito, Ecuador/Isaac Newton) and
Courtney Brandt (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids Senior) teamed up at No. 1 doubles to defeat the tandem of McKenzey Crowley and Sarah Hoffe of Martin Luther 8-1. It went to 2-0 when
Daylyn Drew (Negaunee, Mich./Negaunee) and
Brooke Wilfong (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) took care of business at No. 3 doubles, downing the Knights' Katie Kutz and Abigail Schewe 8-4. The 'Jackets completed the sweep when
Jessi Kukowski (Duluth, Minn./Hermantown) and
Shelby Hanson (Albert Lea, Minn./Albert Lea Senior) won at No. 3 doubles, 8-5 over Josephine Bieberitz and Charis Glende.

Tejada, who had a monster weekend for the Yellowjackets, got the singles play started with a quick 6-1, 6-3 win over Crowley. For the weekend, Tejada went 6-0, winning three singles matches and three doubles matches, all at the No. 1 position.

The Yellowjackets clinched the win for the day when
Marina Dostal (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior) earned her second win in as many days, defeating Hoffe at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-1.

It took a little longer, but Brandt picked up her fifth win of the year, defeating Bieberitz 3-6, 6-2 and 1-0. Wilfong rolled at No. 4 singles, going 6-4, 6-0 over Glende.

After falling behind early,
Haley Quick (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail High School and Academy) rallied for a straight sets win over Schewe at No. 5 singles. Â She needed a 7-3 win in the tiebreaker to take the first set 7-6, before winning 6-4 in the second set to take the longest match of the afternoon.
At No. 6 singles, Kukowski did what she has done a lot of in 2023, winning in quick fashion. The freshman from Duluth rolled over Jessica Waege 6-2, 6-1 to improve to 8-2 on the season.

The Yellowjackets have a little time off before they return to action Friday, April 7 when they host Northwestern in UMAC play. The first serve is set for 11 a.m.
