SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Yellowjacket sophomore
Halle Barker (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) has been named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced in a release Monday.
For Barker, it is the first time she has received the weekly honor from the UMAC.
At last week's Saint Mary's Invitational in Winona, Minn., Barker ran to a first-place finish in the women's 5,000-meter run, breaking the tape with a time of 18:59.41. The time established a new lifetime personal record for Barker, bettering her old mark by an astounding one minute, five seconds.
The win was the third of the 2023 season for Barker, but the first time she brought home a first place finish during the outdoor season.
Barker currently owns the fastest 5,000 meter time in the UMAC. She also holds the conference's second-fastest time in the 1,500 meters.
The Yellowjackets return to action this coming weekend when they travel to the Phil Esten Challenge, hosted by UW-La Crosse, Friday and Saturday.
