Yellowjacket Women Post 16 Prs at Whitewater's Drake Alternative

4/28/2023 11:43:00 PM

WHITEWATER, Wis. -  For the second time this season, the Yellowjacket women's track and field team faced competition at UW-Whitewater. The Yellowjackets were originally scheduled to compete at the University of Minnesota Duluth, but the Bulldogs canceled their meet, forcing the Yellowjackets to seek out an alternative.

As a result, for the second time in just a few weeks, the Yellowjackets competed at Rex Foster Track, on the campus of one of their former WIAC foes.

And in their final tune-up before the upcoming Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championships, the Yellowjackets turned in another strong outdoor performance.

On the track the Yellowjackets had one of their best days of 2023.

Leading the way was junior Alexxa DeQuevedo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley), who posted personal records in both the 200-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles. DeQuevedo ran a time of 27.33 seconds in the 200-meters, and in the 100-meter hurdles finished the race with a time of 17.42 seconds. Away from the track events, DeQuevedo hit a new season best in the long jump with a mark of 4.27 meters, which was good for 15th place.

Yellowjacket Halle Barker (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior), who has had a strong campaign in both the indoor and outdoor season, had another strong day for the Yellowjackets. In the 800 meters, Barker won her heat with a time of 2:29.81. That mark placed her 14th overall in the 800 and knocked 15 seconds off her previous personal record.

Also in the 800, Cora Hudella (North Branch, Minn./North Branch Area) had a strong race, coming across the line with a time of 2:33.78. The time placed her 13th and knocked six seconds off her time.

In the field events Sidney Bader (Milltown, Wis./Unity) had a great day for the Yellowjackets. Bader was impressive in the javelin, posting a mark of 32.37 meters, which was an improvement of 7.5 meters in the event from her previous best. The mark was good for fifth overall and established a new personal record for Bader.

In total, the Yellowjackets established 16 new personal records on the women's side of the meet.

Next up for the Yellowjackets is the UMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The event, hosted by Minnesota Morris, will be May 5-6.
