Barker, Hughlett Named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators

SUPERIOR, Wis. – A pair of Yellowjacket women's cross country and track and field student-athletes received Academic All-District® honors from the College Sports Communicators (CSC), it was announced in a release Wednesday.
 
Yellowjacket senior thrower Kasha Hughlett (Maple, Wis./Northwestern) and sophomore distance runner Halle Barker (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) were both named to the team for the first time.
 
The College Sports Communicators (formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom, separately recognizing cross country and track and field student-athletes in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
To be eligible for nomination consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher and be a starter or key contributor on their respective team.
 
Hughlett, a transportation and logistics management major, graduated with a 3.991 grade point average. The native of Maple, Wis. was the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) champion in the hammer throw during the outdoor season. She was named All-UMAC First Team during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Hughlett, was also a finalist for the UMAC Scholar-Athlete Leadership Award, was named the top female scholar-athlete at UW-Superior for the second year in a row.
 
Barker, a native of Superior, was named All-UMAC First Team in during the outdoor track and field season after claiming the UMAC championship in the 5,000-meter run. Barker is majoring in biology and has a grade point average of 3.732.
 
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 28.
