SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Superior men's soccer program released its schedule for the 2023 season in an announcement Wednesday, featuring 11 home and 9 away matches. Head coach
Joe Mooney is in his 16th season at the helm and is looking to continue the program's dominance by bringing an eighth consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference championship back to Superior.
The Yellowjackets will start their season with two home exhibition matches against Division II Northern Michigan Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. and bridge-rival St. Scholastica Aug. 28 at 11 a.m.
The regular season starts with a match against UW-Eau Claire Sept. 3, set for a 5 p.m. start at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex. The Yellowjackets will then start a brief four game road trip, beginning with Saint John's (Minn.) Sept. 5 at 5 p.m.
UW-Superior will then face off against UW-Platteville for the first time since the 2014 season, a team the 'Jackets currently hold a five-game winning streak against. The match is set for a 3 p.m. start at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
Conference play starts in Minneapolis against North Central Sept. 13 at 1 p.m., followed by a match at Minnesota Morris Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. The Yellowjackets return home for three matches against Northwestern Sept. 19 at 4:30 p.m., Augsburg Sept. 20 at 7 p.m., and Bethany Lutheran Sept. 23 at 2 p.m.
UWS will travel to Ponzio Stadium to face Northland Sept. 27 at 4:30 p.m., then start a four-match homestand against the Knights from Martin Luther Sept. 30 at 2 p.m., Crown Oct. 3 at 1 p.m., St. Scholastica Oct. 4 at 7 p.m., and the Cougars from Minnesota Morris Oct. 7 at 4:30 p.m.
The Yellowjackets hit the road to take on the Eagles from Northwestern Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. and the Knights from Bethany Lutheran Oct. 14 at 3:30 p.m. UWS returns home to face Macalester, their last non-conference match of the season, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m., and face off against North Central Oct. 18 at 3:30 p.m.
UW-Superior faces off against Martin Luther Oct. 21, set for a 3:30 p.m. start at MLC Soccer Field, then returns home to face Northland Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m., and caps the regular season with a match against Crown Oct. 28 at 3:30 p.m. at Old National Bank Stadium. Senior day for the 'Jackets will be Oct. 24 against the Lumberjacks.
UWS finished the 2022 campaign with an overall record of 16-4-2, capturing their seventh conference championship and advancing to the NCAA Division III Championship, where they fell to the 10th ranked Cardinals of North Central (Ill.)
