Women’s Soccer Shuts Out North Central 7-0 In Conference Opener

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. –  The UW-Superior women's soccer team hit the road to compete in its first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match of the season Tuesday, taking on North Central at Eliot Park in Minneapolis, looking for their first win of the year.

With four goals in the first half, the Yellowjackets rolled to a 7-0 win over the Rams. It didn't take the Yellowjacket offense long to get going. Niya Wilson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) found the back of the net just four minutes into the match with an assist from Olivia Soltero (Washburn, Wis./Washburn).

The Jackets' did not stop there, at the 16th minute Allison Alessi (Shakopee, Minn./Prior Lake) would net her first of the match, with an assist from Tori Vosburg (Cloquet, Minn./Esko).

In the 24th minute Alessi would find the back of the net for her second goal with an assist from Ava Giswold (Duluth, Minn./Proctor). Just minutes later, Wilson will net her second goal of the match to give the Yellowjackets a 4-0 lead going into halftime. For Wilson, the all-time leading goal scorer in program history, the two first half goals give her 44 in her career.

Liberty Dickerson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) kept the Jackets' going in the second half, scoring her first goal as a Yellowjacket in the 50th minute with Taylor DeCook (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) notching the assist. Dickerson will find the back of the net again for her second of the match in the 68th minute, Wilson with the assist.

In the 86th minute Alessi will net her third goal of the game off a penalty kick to advance the Yellowjackets to a 7-0 victory over North Central.

Jenna Lang (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) started in net for the Yellowjackets this afternoon, seeing only three shots, with one of them reaching the target.

The Yellowjackets are back in action on the road with more UMAC play Saturday Sept. 16 at Cougar Field for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff against Minnesota Morris.
