SUPERIOR, Wis—After a long few weeks on the road, the Yellowjacket women's soccer team was finally back home Tuesday night for its home opener.
Continuing Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play, the Yellowjackets Now stand at 3-0-0 in the conference following tonight's 3-1 win over Northwestern.
The first half started slowly, but that changed in the 37th minute when
Mya Holmquist (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) found the back of the net to put the Yellowjackets in front 1-0. For Holmquist, it was her second goal of the season, and it came unassisted.
Megan Moeller would tie things up for Northwestern just five minutes into the second half at the 50th minute, making the score 1-1.
The tie did not last long, as the Yellowjackets moved in front for good just a few minutes later.
Kamryn Hill (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) would find the back of the net, getting an assist from
Niya Wilson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) for her first goal of the season in the 68th minute, to put the Yellowjackets in front 2-1.
The Yellowjackets got some insurance just minutes later. This time it was Wilson, scoring her own goal in the 73rd minute to make it 3-1. Wilson's third goal of the year was assisted by
Julia Lindow (Richfield, Minn./Richfield).
Quinn Clark (Duluth Minn./Duluth East) made her third start of the season and had a quiet night back in the net. Northwestern sent eight shots Clark's way, but only two of them ended up on goal. Clark finished the night with one save.
The Yellowjackets attempted 14 shots in the match, with eight of them being on target.
The 'Jackets are back in action at home with more UMAC play Saturday, Sept. 23 up against Bethany Lutheran. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
