ASHLAND, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's soccer team continued in Upper Midwest Conference (UMAC) play Wednesday, facing off against rival Northland College.
The Yellowjackets (5-2-1) wasted no time in the opening 45 minutes putting up four goals on the LumberJills, while adding another one in the second half for the 5-0 shutout at Ponzio Stadium.
It did not take long for the Yellowjackets to get the ball rolling, just 13 minutes into the match,
Niya Wilson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) would net her first of the night to make the score 1-0. The assist would come from
Ava Giswold (Duluth, Minn./Proctor).
Not long after,
Mya Holmquist (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) would find the back of the net in the 23rd minute for her sixth goal of the season. The assist would go to
Bianca McGiffert (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall) to make the score 2-0.
In the 37th minute, it was
Halle Carlson (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) who found the back of the net, unassisted, extending the Yellowjackets lead to 3-0. For Carlson, a Junior, it marked just her second goal in 50 career games.
Just three minutes later in the 40th minute,
Hailey Hollister (Big Lake, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) with a high right shot for her first of the night.
Kaitlyn Raisch (Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins) would get credit for the assist ending the first half 4-0 for the Yellowjackets.
In the 58th minute of the second half, Wilson, with her second goal of the game and team-leading seventh of the year would round the Yellowjackets out for a 5-0 victory over the LumberJills. The assist came from Holmquist.
Jenna Lang (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) started in net for the Yellowjacket and would save all three shots on goal, picking up a clean sheet on the night. It was her second shutout of the season and 13th of her career, putting her just one clean sheet away from tying the school record.
The Yellowjackets return home to face Marin Luther Saturday, Sept. 30. Kickoff at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex is set for 4:30 p.m.
