Women’s Basketball Cruises to 83-58 Victory over Martin Luther

SUPERIOR, Wis. – On the heels of defeating Bethany Lutheran Friday evening, the Yellowjacket women's basketball team were back in action Saturday against Martin Luther. The offensive momentum from Friday night's contest carried into Saturday afternoon as the 'Jackets scored early and often, cruising to an 83-58 victory inside the Mertz.

Erika Mattson (Ely, Minn./Ely Memorial) once again led the offensive attack, finishing her afternoon with 18 points. She was also strong defensively as she grabbed six rebounds, along with a block and steal. The Knights were led by Lydia Feidt, who scored 18 points and obtained four rebounds.

Game Notes
  • Mattson set the tone from the start, nailing an early shot beyond the arc. She didn't miss many shots tonight, securing six-of-eight from field goal range, along with nailing five-of-six from downtown.
  • Thirteen different Yellowjackets contributed at least a point Saturday, one of whom was Sophie Majewski (Pulaski, Wis./Pulaski). She nailed a three-pointer late in the fourth quarter, sending the Yellowjacket bench into a frenzy. Majewski's trey were her first points inside Mertz Mortorelli Gym on the season.
  • The Yellowjacket bench came alive in the fourth, contributing 21 points to earn their sixth Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) victory on the campaign.
  • Junior Emily Dehler (Pierz, Minn./Pierz Healy) added six rebounds to her season-total of 100. She holds a team-second place behind Charlotte Ferstl (Plain, Wis./River Valley), who added seven boards Saturday to boost her season total of 123.
  • The Knights made things interesting in the fourth, scoring 27 points. Feidt, along with Anna Kieselhorst and Jordyn Heckendorf helped pace the charge.
  • UWS limited the Knights to just a 31.6 field goal percentage on the evening while grabbing 42 rebounds, the seventh time the Yellowjackets have secured 40 or more boards on the season.
  • Saturday's contest also saw the highest scoring from the 'Jackets on the season, besting their next-best performance of 82 by one point (82-31 victory against Northland on Jan. 6).

The Yellowjackets (10-8, 6-1 UMAC) currently share first place with Minnesota Morris in conference standings heading into the final stretch of regular season play.

UWS returns to action Saturday, traveling to Kendrigan Gymnasium on the campus of Northland College. Opening tipoff is slated for 3 p.m.
