Yellowjackets Fall 4-1 to the Falcons

RIVER FALLS, Wis, -- The Yellowjacket women's hockey team was on the road Saturday afternoon as they looked for revenge in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play, taking on the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, who still sits undefeated and the No. 1 ranked team in the nation.

UW-River Falls would put two up on the Yellowjackets late in the first period, one being a power play goal. The Falcons would add an additional goal in the second period and their fourth and final in the third period. The Yellowjackets would get on the scoreboard late in the third period for a final score of 4-1 at Hunt Arena.

Kailey Swerhun (Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Ignatius) would get the lone goal for the Yellowjackets, scoring on the power play late in the third period to break the River Falls shutout bid.

Rose Beeman (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's School) got the start in net for the Yellowjackets and finished the game with 56 saves.

After this loss, the Yellowjackets now sit 4-15-1 overall and 1-5-1 in WIAC play.

Game Notes
  • Swerhun's goal was her fourth of the season.
  • Lucy Drougas (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) assisted on the lone goal for her third assist of the season. She had an assist in each of the River Falls games.
  • Jada LeBlanc (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute) also added an assist on Swerhun's goal, for her fifth assist on the season.
  • Each team scored once on the power play tonight.
  • Four different Falcons would be credited with goals this afternoon.
  • Beeman would have a career-high of 56 saves.
The Yellowjackets will face Falcons for the third and final time of the regular season Saturday, Feb. 3. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at W.H. Hunt Arena in River Falls.
