DeCook Notches Two Goals Help the Yellowjackets Past Martin Luther, 3-1

NEW ULM, Minn. – The UW-Superior women's soccer team traveled to Martin Luther for another Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match up Saturday afternoon at MLC Soccer Field. Securing a 3-1 win over the Knights to improve the Yellowjackets 6-5-0 overall and 4-1-0 in UMAC play.

The Yellowjackets are now tied for first place in the UMAC standings with Bethany Lutheran and Northwestern, all three with 12 points.

Taylor DeCook (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) had an impressive performance, scoring two critical goals in the match. Her first goal was the equalizer, bringing the score to 1-1. She then sealed the victory with her second goal, leading the Yellowjackets in a 3-1 victory.

Yellowjacket goalkeeper Elysabeth Lough (Las Vegas, Nev./Northwest Career and Technical Academy) got the start and is now 3-3-0 in net. Lough faced three attempted shots and notched one saves.

Match Notes
  • The 'Jackets have not lost to Martin Luther since Nov. of 2019.
  • Martin Luther would strike first in the 16th minute of the match, giving it a 1-0 lead.
  • Late into the first half, with just five minutes left on the clock, DeCook would fire a low center shot past the goalkeeper for the equalizer goal.
  • Mya Holmquist (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) provided the go-ahead goal for the Yellowjackets in the 55th minute of play, heading the ball low to the left side of the net off a corner kick taken by Julia Lindow (Richfield, Minn./Richfield).
  • DeCook would seal the deal for the 'Jackets in the 72nd minute as she would net her second of the afternoon. Brynne Crystal (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) would touch the ball over to Decook and be credited with the assist.
  • All 10 corner kicks awarded in the match were given to the Yellowjackets.
  • UWS was given 12 fouls to Martin Luther's two.
  • Martin Luther's goalkeeper faced 29 attempted shots and was credited with nine saves.
The Yellowjackets, with a quick turnaround, are back in action Tuesday, Oct. 8 when they face Crown on the road. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. at Old National Bank Stadium.
