SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) released its weekly award winners in an announcement Tuesday, and three Yellowjackets were recognized by the conference.
Freshman
Makenna Hohbein (Holdingford, Minn./Holdingford) claimed the circuit's volleyball offensive player of the week, while
Zach Tiemeyer (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee Community) earned the UMAC's defensive player of the week award in men's soccer and
Zach Reese (Zimmerman, Minn./Spectrum) from the Yellowjacket men's cross country team earned runner of the week accolades.
Hohbein swung at a .414 clip last week, ending with 14 kills versus Northwestern and a career-high 21 kills against North Central. She ranks second in points and kills on the Yellowjacket leaderboard while sitting in the top 15 of kills and points in the UMAC.
Tiemeyer has been a staple in the Yellowjacket defense this season, aiding the backline's efforts of not allowing a single goal versus UMAC opponents. He even displayed his offensive skills, scoring two goals from the backline in a 6-0 victory over Martin Luther last week.
Reese saw action at the Blugold Invite last week, placing 63rd overall and 47th across all NCAA Division III athletes at the meet with a 26:31.5. This mark was the top time for any UMAC runner in competition this weekend. Furthermore, this race time lands Reese in 16th place on the all-time 8k list at UW-Superior.
The Yellowjacket volleyball team returns home Friday, taking on Bethany Lutheran at 7 p.m. inside the Mertz.
The Yellowjacket men's soccer team travels to Crown College to resume UMAC play. The opening kick is set for 7 p.m. in St. Bonifacius, Minn.
The Yellowjacket men's cross country team will have one final tune up before the UMAC Championship race, entering the Augustana Interregional Invitational. The race is set for 11:45 a.m. at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.
