NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saturday marked the NCAA Division III North Regional Championship race for the Yellowjacket women's cross country team. After snagging first place at the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) title race for the second-straight season, the Yellowjacket women entered the final race of the 2024 campaign.
This race featured the best of the best within the northern region, leading to the 'Jackets achieve 23rd place.
Snagging first place with a 35-second cushion was Hannah Preisser from Carleton College, finishing in 21:24.6.
Race Notes
- Pacing the Yellowjackets was Simone Stephens (Scottsdale, Ariz./Saguaro), as she finished the race with a time of 23:43.8 for 61st place overall. Her time was the fastest out of any UMAC runner in the event by nearly a full minute.
- The next Yellowjacket to cross the finish line was Tea Boerner (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna), garnering a 24:39.0 race time as the second UMAC runner to cross.
- The 128th runner to finish the race Saturday was Cora Hudella (North Branch, Minn./North Branch Area). She finished with a time of 25:09.6 before Lilley Smith (Ironwood, Mich./Ironwood) capped her race with a 25:31.4 race time, taking 146th place.
- The fifth and six Yellowjacket women to finish the day were Aubrey Peterson (Kasson, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) and Scarlett Vanderscheuren (Saginaw, Minn./South Ridge). Peterson logged a 27:50.0, while Vanderscheuren finished in 28:33.6. The duo took 195th and 205th place, respectively.
- Kayela Putnam (Stephenson, Mich./Stephenson) ran her first regional race and carded a 29:06.9, her third fastest 6k race to-date.
- UW-Superior finished the day with the best team score since at least the 2011 season, garnering 620 on the afternoon.
Finishing first in team standings was UW-La Crosse, garnering 63 collective points to best St. Olaf by 36 points.
