Yellowjackets Sweep Northland

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's hockey team faced Northland College Saturday afternoon for more Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) looking to clinch the weekend sweep. Four different Yellowjackets Four different Yellowjackets score on the way to a 4-0 win over Northland. This would advance the 'Jackets winning streak to four. This afternoon's game concluded the regular season for the Yellowjackets who finished 8-16-1 overall and 5-6-1 in the WIAC.

Game Notes
  • Andrea Stelling (Sioux Falls, S.D./Eaton Rapids (Mich.)) would get on the board first for the Yellowjackets in the last minute of the first period, right off the faceoff.
  • Halfway through the second period, Ashton Parnell (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) would tip a shot from the point shot by Darbie Mattson (Atikokan, Ontario/Atikokan), who would be credited with an assist. Kaylin Garner (Anchorage, Alaska/Chugiak) would also get credit for an assist.
  • Just minutes later, Maddie Rewertz (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) would find the puck in the slot and would net the third goal of the night.
  • Emma Booth (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) and Brynn MacLean (Wilcox, Saskatchewan/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) would get credit for the assists on Rewertz goal.
  • The LumberJills would pull their goaltender with a few minutes left of play as Jada LeBlanc (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute) would net herself an empty net goal.
  • Stelling and Mattson would both tally their second point of the game, getting credit with an assist for LeBlanc's goal.
  • Rose Beeman (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's School) would net her second shutout of the of the weekend and her third shutout of the season.
  • Beeman would save all 23 shots on net.
  • Head coach Dan Laughlin would reach a career milestone this afternoon, securing his 300th career win.
The Yellowjacket women's hockey team will start post-season play Friday, Feb. 24 as they will head to UW-Eau Claire for the semifinal round of WIAC playoffs. Puck drop for Friday and Saturday are both set for 2 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Arena.
