NAPLES, Fla. – The Yellowjacket softball team traveled down to Florida for the 34th Annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. Opening day for Yellowjackets consisted of two games, taking on Westfield State, followed by Widener.
Starting the trip off with a nailbiter, the Yellowjackets would fall to Westfield 1-0. Followed by another close game with Widener, with the 'Jackets falling 3-1.
Game One Notes
- The first and only run of the game happened in the first inning.
- Westfield's Hannah Wodecki would triple, and Mia Alfonso's base hit would bring Wodeki home.
- For Westfield, Katherine Canty would get the start and Stephanie Scoville would come in to relive Canty.
- Carly Stuckmayer (Delano, Minn./Delano Senior) would lead the offensive play for the Yellowjackets with two hits. Ellie Macal (Winona, Minn./Cotter) would be the only other Yellowjacket to notch a hit.
- Bella Garley (Albuquerque, N.M./Porter (Tex.)) would pitch all seven innings for the 'Jackets and would be credited with the loss.

Game Two Notes
- Scoring the lone run of the day was Larrisa Snyder in the second inning. Samantha Swartz (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) would single up the middle and score Synder.
- Emma Pillion (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa Township) would start the game off in the circle pitching 4.1 innings and Swartz would finish the game with the remaining 2.2 innings.
- Pillion would allow five hits while Swartz would allow two.
- Five Yellowjackets would notch a hit including MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset), Norah Schmitz (Carver County, Minn./Waconia) and Izzy Lingle (Enumclaw, Wash./Enumclaw), Swartz, and Snyder.

The Yellowjackets return to action Monday, March 10 for another pair of games. The first game is set for 8 a.m. against St. Joseph's Brooklyn with the second to follow at 10 a.m. against Eureka at the North Collier Regional Park.
