NAPLES, Fla.—The Yellowjacket Softball team was back in action for day two of the 34th Annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. Monday morning the 'Jackets would first see St. Joseph's University, who they dominated 12-2. The second game of the day would follow, being a much closer game to Eureka, but the Yellowjackets would fall 8-7.
The Yellowjackets started the day with a strong offensive performance. With a bold second inning scoring five, four in the third and three in the fourth, the 'Jackets were able to maintain the lead to secure the win.
The second game of the day was much closer. Carrying over from the first game, we saw big offensive performances from the Yellowjackets.
Carly Stuckmayer (Delano, Minn./Delano Senior) would have three hits as would
Ellie Macal (Winona, Minn./Cotter).
Bella Garley (Albuquerque, N.M./Porter (Tex.)),
Larissa Snyder (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) and
Norah Schmitz (Carver County, Minn./Waconia) would each notch two hits.
Game One Notes
- The Yellowjackets saw a lot of offense in the first game notching 12 runs on 14 hits.
- Zoe Thomson (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) would go three-for-three and scored three runs. Thomson singled the ball to right field twice and would then double.
- Indigo Fish (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) would bring in three runs as well off two hits and a walk.
- MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) would have two hits and two runs.
- Garley would pitch four innings and would earn the win. Garley's record now sits 2-1.
- Baylee O'Donnell (Mendota Hights, Minn./Richfield) would pitch one inning allowing just one hit.
Game Two Notes
- There was no shortage of base runners in the scored game, with the Yellowjackets outhitting Eureka 16-5.
- For the Yellowjackets, Fish and Macal would both be credited with two RBI. Thomson, Leccia and Schmitz each notch one.
- Garley came in for Emma Pillion (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa Township) who pitched the first three innings. Garley pitched 3.2 innings and credited with the loss. Her record is now 2-2.
- Samantha Swartz (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) was in the circle for the last .1 of the innings, allowing no hits or runs.
- Eureka had a hot seventh inning scoring five runs to close the gap and would go up 8-6 in the on the Yellowjackets.
The Yellowjackets are back in action Tuesday, March 12 for day three of the 34th Annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. With another set of games, the 'Jackets will take the field for an 8 a.m. start against Pitt-Bradford and the second is set for noon against RIT at Lee Country Sports Complex.
