Fort Myers, Fla.—The Yellowjacket softball team had a very successful third day of the 34th Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. Adding two more wins to the Florida trip, the Yellowjackets are now 3-3 in Florida and have an overall record of 4-6 on the year. The Yellowjackets would first see Pitt-Bradford, notching a 13-2 win in just five innings. For game two, facing RIT, the 'Jackets would complete the sweep day two of games with a 3-1 win.
Game One Notes
- The Yellowjackets would score four runs in the second inning, six in the third and three in the fifth.
- Pitt-Bradford would get their only two runs in the fourth inning.
- Jenna Hoops (Woodbury, Minn./Visitation School) would have a powerful day at the plate. Her first at bat she would hit a double to left field, advancing Bella Garley (Albuquerque, N.M./Porter (Tex.)) to third.
- Hoops would hit a home run over the left field fence in her second at bat, scoring MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset).
- For the Yellowjackets, Carly Stuckmayer (Delano, Minn./Delano Senior), Larissa Snyder (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park), Zoe Thomson (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson), Norah Schmitz (Carver County, Minn./Waconia) and Hoops would all notch two hits each.
- Snyder with three RBI, Hoops and Schmitz each with two.
- The Yellowjackets would have 14 total hits to Pitt-Bradford's six.
- Snyder would triple to left center scoring in Stuckmayer and Schmitz in the third inning.
- Garley would pitch four innings to collect the win. Garley's record is now 3-2 in the circle. Â
- Baylee O'Donnell (Mendota Hights, Minn./Richfield) would pitch the fifth and final inning.
Game Two Notes
- RIT would start the scoring off in the first inning, scoring their first and only run of the game.
- In the third inning for the Yellowjackets, Indigo Fish (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) would single to first base, scoring Snyder.
- Leccia flied out to right field, Fish would score on a sacrifice fly.
- In the fifth inning, Izzy Lingle (Enumclaw, Wash./Enumclaw) was walked, advancing Lily Hanson (Cloquet, Minn./Esko) to second, Leccia to third, and would score Ellie Macal (Winona, Minn./Cotter).
- Macal would go 3-for-4.
- Samantha Swartz (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) would collect the win in the circle, pitching four innings. Her record is now 1-1.
The Yellowjackets will have a break in action on Wednesday but will resume play Thursday, March 14 with a pair of games at the North Collier Regional Park. With an 8 a.m. start, the 'Jackets will face Alfred state followed by Western Connecticut State at 10 a.m.
