Softball Sweeps Alfred State and Western Connecticut

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NAPLES,Fla.—The Yellowjacket softball team was back in action with another pair of games at North Coller Regional Park for day four of games in Florida. The 'Jackets would first see the Pioneers of Alfred State, dominating them in five innings, earning the win 12-1. The second game of the day was a much closer game with the Yellowjackets taking the win over Western Connecticut State University 3-2.  The Yellowjackets are now 6-6 on the season.

Game One Notes
  • The Pioneers would score the first run of the game in the top of the second inning. This would be their one and only run the entire game.
  • The Yellowjackets would score five runs in the second inning and eight in the fourth.
  • For the Yellowjackets, Indigo Fish (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) would single, scoring Ellie Macal (Winona, Minn./Cotter) to tie the game up 1-1.
  • Lilly Hanson reached on a fielder's choice and would advance to second. MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) went to third and Indigo Fish (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) scored on the play.
  • Karen Balabon (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) would get first on an error by the Pioneers pitcher. Hanson would advance to third, scoring Leccia.
  • Carly Stuckmayer (Delano, Minn./Delano Senior) grounded out to the shortstop, advancing Balabon to third and scoring Hanson.
  • Macal singled to score Snyder and would advance Morgan Young (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) to third, who was pinch running for Thomson.
  • In the fourth inning, Fish would single to advance Macal to third and Young would score an unearned run on an error.
  • Leccia would double to left field scoring Fish and Macal in the fourth inning.
  • For the 12th and final run, Hanson would single to right field scoring Leccia, and would advance Camille Wikstrom (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) to third who was pinch running for Jenna Hoops (Woodbury, Minn./Visitation School).
  • Samantha Swartz (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) started in the circle for the Yellowjackets pitching four innings earning the win. Her record is now 1-1.
 
Game Two Notes
  • The Yellowjackets would start of the scoring in the first inning with a triple from Thomson, scoring Stuckmayer.
  • Macal followed with a single, scoring Thomson.
  • West Conn. would bring its two runs across in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game up 2-2.
  • The sixth inning would bring the game-winning run in. Macal would attempt a bunt allowing Young to steal second and Snyder to steal home putting the 'Jackets up 3-2.
  • Bella Garley (Albuquerque, N.M./Porter (Tex.)) would start in the circle for the Yellowjackets pitching 4.1 innings before Emma Pillion (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa Township) would come in for the save, earning the win. Pillion's record is now 1-3.
  • Coach Mellisa Fracker was an outfielder at West Conn. from 2008-12. Fracker spent eight years there as an assistant coach.
 
The Yellowjackets take the field for the fifth and final day of games at the 34th Annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic with one more pair of games on Friday, March 15.  The 'Jackets will first see Lesley for a 10 a.m. start followed by Greenville for a noon start.
