SUPERIOR, Wis.—The Yellowjacket softball team took the field on Tuesday afternoon for more Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play, facing Martin Luther for game one of the three game series. Taking an early lead to the game, the Yellowjackets would make it a quick win. For a game time of one hour, the 'Jackets would clinch the game in five innings, 11-1. With Tuesday's win the Yellowjackets are now 18-10 overall and 7-3 in the UMAC.
Samantha Swartz (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) got the start in the circle and would pitch the complete game. Swartz was credited with the win, allowing just one run, four hits and one strikeout, now has a record of 5-2.
Game Notes
- After inning one, the Yellowjackets took an early lead 5-0.
- Martin Luther would score their lone run in the second inning with a groundball out to second base.
- Swartz would go three-for-three for her at bats, scoring two runs and driving in one.
- MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) would go two-for-three at the plate. Both of Leccia's hits were doubles, which produced five runs.
- Swartz, Zoe Thomson (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson), Ellie Macal (Winona, Minn./Cotter), Jessica Jacobson (Sturgeon Bay, Wis./Southern Door), and Karen Balabon (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) would each collect RBI.
The Yellowjackets are back in action on Wednesday, April 24 for a UMAC doubleheader and remaining two games of the three-game series with Martin Luther at the NBA Spartan Sports Complex. The first pitch is set for 11 a.m. and the second game is to follow at 1 p.m.
