SUPERIOR, Wis.—The Yellowjacket softball team saw Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opponent Crown College on Friday afternoon after a two week break in games. A beautiful Friday afternoon allowed the 'Jackets to take the field at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex and earn an 8-0 win over the Polars.
After this afternoon's win the Yellowjackets are now 11-6 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Bella Garley (Albuquerque, N.M./Porter (Tex.)) threw a complete-game, five-hit shutout earning the win.
Game Notes
- The Yellowjackets would secure the win in six innings.
- After today's win, the 'Jackets have now won nine in a row.
- After a quick three-up-three-down in the first inning from both teams, the Yellowjackets placed themselves on the board in the second inning after back-to-back triples. Ellie Macal (Winona, Minn./Cotter) would triple to the right field followed by Indigo Fish (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) tripling to right center for the RBI, scoring Macal.
- In the fourth inning, Fish would nail the ball back to right center field earning herself a double. Macal scored on Fish's second extra-base hit of the game, giving the 'Jackets a 3-0 lead.
- In the fifth inning, Carly Stuckmayer (Delano, Minn./Delano Senior) would single to left field. For the RBI, Stuckmayer would advance Norah Schmitz (Carver County, Minn./Waconia) to second and score Camille Wikstrom (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown).
- To keep the scoring going, Zoe Thomson (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) would single through the right side, scoring Stuckmayer and Schmitz for two RIB.
- Macal was back at the plate in the fifth inning, hitting a double to left center. Earning the RBI, she would score Morgan Young (Blaine, Minn./Blaine).
- Needing just one run in the sixth inning, Lily Hanson (Cloquet, Minn./Esko) would score off a wild pitch to secure the win for the Yellowjackets.
The Yellowjackets are back at home Saturday, April 6 for a doubleheader against Crown. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex. The second game of the doubleheader will follow and is set for 1 p.m.
