SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior women's soccer team was back home Sunday afternoon at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex, where they faced off against the Falcons of UW-River Falls. With two late second half goals, the Yellowjackets would complete the comeback against the Falcons 2-1. This marks their first win of the season, bringing their record to 1-1.
Brynne Crystal (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) would find the back of the net with a low center shot in the 83rd minute for the go-ahead goal for the Yellowjackets. Crystal's goal was assisted by
Niya Wilson (Superior, Wis./Superior). Wilson is now the all-time assist leader for the Yellowjackets with a total of 37.
Elysabeth Lough (Las Vegas, Nev./Northwest Career and Technical Academy) made her first start in net, recording four saves and earning the win.
Match Notes
- Kamryn Hill (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) would get the scoring started for the Yellowjackets late in the second half. Hill's goal came in the 77th minute with a high left shot from the 15-yard line to tie the game 1-1.
- The Falcons would put the first goal up this afternoon when Abby Drontle fired a high right shot on net. Greta Van Guilder would be credited with the assist on Drontle's goal. This goal came with just six seconds remaining in the first half.
- Grace Zellmer would record six saves for the Falcons. Zellmer faced 14 attempted shots.
- This is the second win against the Falcons for the Yellowjackets dating back to 1994. The last recorded win (3-2) against the Falcons was in 2021. Both wins for the Yellowjackets have been at home.
The Yellowjackets are back at home Wednesday, Sept. 4 when they host St. Scholastica. The kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
