SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's soccer team played host to the bridge battle of 2024, taking on St. Scholastica in non-conference action Wednesday. The 'Jackets displayed a balanced attack throughout the match, as UWS holds possession of the golden anchor by scoring two first-half goals, downing the Saints 2-0.
This extends the Yellowjackets' winning streak over CSS to three consecutive matches, dating back to the 2021 season.
Match Notes
- The Yellowjackets only let a few minutes tick off the scoreboard, as Kamryn Hill (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) received a feed from Allison Alessi (Shakopee, Minn./Prior Lake) to bury her second goal of the season.
- A handful of minutes later, UWS was applying pressure on Saints goalkeeper Gracie Meagher once again, but the 'Jackets were called offside, thwarting the attempt to score twice in a three-minute span.
- Patience was a virtue for UW-Superior, however, as Tori Vosburg (Cloquet, Minn./Esko) sent a free kick inside the 18 that Mya Holmquist (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) flicked past Meagher at the 27th minute of play.
- Both team's shots on goal were half of their total shots, as the Saints fired eight total with four on frame. The Yellowjackets were tabbed with 20 shots while ten hit the mark.
- Goalkeeper Quinn Clark (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) was credited with a clean sheet, making four saves in 90 minutes of play.
- Meagher made eight saves on the night, also playing a full 90 minutes.
- Holmquist led with four total shots, while Hill and Erika Schneider (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West) accounted for three shots apiece.
The Yellowjackets carry a two-match winning streak heading into Saturday's contest versus UW-Platteville. The opening kickoff at Public Schools Stadium is set for Saturday at 2 p.m.
