Yellowjackets Downed by Concordia

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Yellowjacket women's soccer team hit the road for the first time in 2024 Saturday, when they crossed the state of Minnesota for a date with Concordia College.

The start to the 2024 season has provided one of the most difficult season-opening schedules in program history, with the first five matches coming against three Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and two Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foes.

Heading into Saturday, the Yellowjackets had dropped two in a row and were hoping to avoid a three-match losing streak for the first time since Sept. 23-25, 2019. Concordia was part of that streak, and unfortunately, they are now part of a second one for the Yellowjackets.

Superior fell behind early in the first half and never recovered, falling 3-0 to the Cobbers in a match where the 'Jackets never seemed to find their collective footing.

The Yellowjackets now sit 2-4-0 overall in 2024.

Match Notes
  • Concordia wasted little time jumping on the Yellowjackets, scoring three times in a span of 25:42 in the first half.
  • Darby Hannan scored the eventual match winning goal at 8:31 of the opening half.
  • Chloe Sollom and Reese Christ also scored for the Cobbers.
  • The Yellowjackets attempted 11 shots in the match, while Concordia attempted 16.

  • Kamryn Hill (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) led he Yellowjackets, accounting for two of the team's eight shots on goal.
  • Elysabeth Lough (Las Vegas, Nev./Northwest Career and Technical Academy) started in goal for the Yellowjackets and finished with seven saves. Her record for the year now stands at 1-2-0 on the year.
The Yellowjackets return home Wednesday when they enter UMAC play. The 'Jackets will host North Central at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex. The opening kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
